Know your number before tax season does.

Two quick estimates: what your refund might look like as a W-2 employee, and what to set aside each quarter if you're self-employed. It's a planning tool, not a filed return — but it will get you close, and we'll confirm the real number with you.

This is an estimate for planning, not a filed return. It applies the standard deduction and the current federal tax tables, includes the child tax credit and self-employment tax, and leaves out credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, education credits, and itemized deductions. Your real numbers depend on your documents. Florida charges no state income tax, so these figures are federal only.

What the calculator does and does not do

Standard deduction only

It assumes you take the standard deduction. If you itemize — large medical bills, big charitable gifts, mortgage interest on a high-value home — your result will differ.

Child tax credit included

Up to $2,200 per qualifying child under 17, with the refundable portion capped at $1,700 per child and limited by your earned income, the way the IRS calculates it.

Self-employment tax included

Social Security at 12.4% up to the wage base and Medicare at 2.9% with no cap, on 92.35% of your net profit — plus half of it deducted against your income tax, as the law allows.

QBI deduction estimated

The 20% qualified business income deduction is applied when your taxable income falls under the threshold. Above it, the rules get specific to your trade and we review it with you.

Credits we leave out

The EITC, education credits, the saver's credit and premium tax credit reconciliation can move your refund by thousands. If any apply to you, bring your documents in — that is exactly the conversation worth having.

No state income tax

Florida does not tax personal income, so nothing here includes a state return. If you moved from another state during the year, tell us and we will handle it.
